With strong crosswinds, the peleton fractures into many (9 through the feedzone) pockets of riders and makes for fierce racing form start to finish at (very) high average speeds.
This is the 1st group, containing Nairo Quintana (COL/Movistar) who will virtiually (and at th efinish) climb up to 2nd in the GC as he trumps his teammate Valverde who is kept behind in the GC group.
